FRIEDA
by Kurtis Watkins

A flower in her heart, a smile in her hand.
While sun beams pierce
through the vast open land.

The storm clouds swirl below,
and exit to the rear.
While the promise of a new day
anxiously draws near.

The breeze of the storm lingers,
swaying locks to and fro.
Moving fast throughout the air
even dancing on the grass below.

The tree was struck with lightning.
A bright light — fast, and bold!
It now stands as a memorial,
of a great story once told.

The story known as Frieda,
who poured hope from her eyes.
And the new story of Freedom will come, whenever the sun shall rise.
